Elscint recently manufactured and supplied a vibratory bowl feeder to a manor multinational automobile company for feeding of cup plugs. These are used in engine assembly and need to be fed automatically. Presently, the same were placed in a chute manually. The customer already had the rest of the automation, only the placement of the plugs was manually. The chute was at a height of 1350 mm and hence, the loading height too increased to 1900 mm after considering a noise enclosure. Feeding at this height was difficult for a person without straining himself and hence, Elscint proposed an 10 ltr. capacity hopper elevator where around 2000 parts could be dumped and the same could easily convey the parts into the bowl at the required height. This along with a level controller in the bowl ensured that the hopper filled the bowl only after the parts in the bowl reduced. A vertical elevator was provided so that the total footprint of the equipment would be less. Further, a level controller inside the hopper ensured that the operator was provided with a signal from a tower lamp that the parts in the elevator were less.
Further, a gravity chute was provided from the bowl feeder to the track of the customer for easy transfer. A stainless steel noise enclosure completed the whole equipment. The customer placed the order in the first week of December and wanted the equipment to be installed by the 23rd December during his annual maintenance shutdown. Elscint not only completed the equipment within this tight timeframe but also installed and commissioned the same within the shutdown.
