Elscint manufactures a vibratory counting systems. The equipment consists of single or multiple vibratory bowl feeders for feeding of parts, which can be either plastic, rubber or metal. The parts are oriented in a particular direction in the vibratory bowl feeders. There can be a single or multiple rows depending upon the speed required. After feeding and orienting the parts through the vibratory bowl feeder, they are fed onto a linear track or else by gravity. Elscint’s patented pneumatic escapement is mounted on the linear track or else on the gravity chute, as the case may be. A set number of parts are stopped and released per stroke. This way by counting the number of strokes of the cylinder, the quantity of parts which is dispensed get calculated. A counter or a PLC is provided for this and the equipment stops on counting of the preset number of parts. In case of multiple bowl feeders and when there is high speed required, one set of parts is released in a buffer bin while counting and dispensing of the other bowl feeder is going on. This can increase the speed of the total equipment by double.
For increased loading capacity, either a vibratory hopper or else an hopper elevator is provided before the bowl. The complete machine is mounted on a separate stand.
Recently, Elscint completed a project for a customer in Lithuania where the requirement was to feed medical parts, count and dispense 50 numbers per set for packing. The sealing and labelling of pouches was to done manually and the customer just wanted to count and dispense automatically to ensure the correct number of parts were packed every time. The requirement was for 8 sets of 50 parts to be dispensed every minute.
To match this required speed, two bowl feeders were used, each with 2 lanes. Five parts were dispensed per row per stroke. Hence, 10 parts per bowl feeder per stroke. With 5 strokes, the required cycle time was achieved easily. Each bowl feeder could dispense 50 parts every 15 seconds. Hence, with two bowl feeders, each having 2 tracks, the required cycle time of 8 times dispensing of 50 parts was achieved. As the speed was high, two separate extra capacity 50 ltr hoppers were provided for extra loading capacity. This ensured that the reloading time in the bowl was much less, reducing the time between two reloads and freeing the operator.
One problem was that the part was an assembly and there were chances of the assembly getting removed. Hence, a poka yoke was designed that ensured that unassembled parts were removed from the bowl itself and collected in separate bin.
CE approval was provided for the entire equipment. Anyway, Elscint vibratory bowl feeders and linear vibrators are having CE approval. However, in this case, the entire equipment was provided. Online validation was conducted by the customer and the equipment was approved for dispatch.
