Elscint recently manufactured a vibratory bowl feeder for feeding of pen tips in a particular orientation, with the smaller diameter forward in 2 outlets. The difference between the front and back diameter was just 1 mm with the smaller diameter side being slightly tapered. Speed or feed rate required was 60 parts per minute per row. There being 2 outlets, overflow was required to ensure that there is no jamming and free flow of components. Elscint used its Model 250 with a cast aluminium bowl with Elscinthane coating. The tooling was made in stainless steel and air jets were used for orientation of the tips. This resulted in 100% correct orientation with no jamming with a speed of more than 60 tips per minute per row. More details – www.elscintautomation.com
