Elscint recently manufactured and supplied a complete automation solution for a pad printing machine. The requirement was to feed a transparent plastic part like a cap having diameter 43 m x 10 mm ht, to a pad printing machine. The part had a small notch on one side and orientation was required with respect to the same. Most bowl feeder manufacturers regretted feeding of this part due to the notch. However, Elscint took it up as a challenge and not only oriented the part in the required manner but also integrated the same with the customer’s pad printing machine. The pneumatics and controls for the same were supplied by Elscint. A stainless steel outer track bowl was used for this purpose and the oriented parts were carried forward on a linear track of 800 mm length. Thereafter, a singulation arrangement was provided to taking one part a time to the pad printing station. After the pad printing took place, the same was ejected and the next part was taken to the printing position. The component being transparent plastic, almost like a see through glass, sensing the same was a challenge. However, Elscint used correct type of sensors to ensure this was possible. A speed of 45 parts per minute was achieved, which was the maximum possible for the pad printing machine. The whole equipment as mounted on a separate table and supplied to the customer in record time. Commissioning of the same at the csutomer’s end was also undertaken immediately. You can watch the video of the equipment in running condition.
