Elscint recently manufactured a bowl feeder for feeding of 3 types of pipettes having lengths 67 mm, 80 mm and 89 mm. The pipettes had a small collar and the required orientation was to get them hanging on the collar. The pipette collars were very less in thickness, having a diameter of just 1 to 2 mm more than the tails. Further the collars were not consistent and had a lot of variation. However, Elscint oriented these in the correct manner with the least change over tooling. Further the pipettes being a medical component, a complete stainless steel bowl was required with full seam welding and even the bowl mounting arrangement was done from the outside to ensure that no screw and hole was present in the bowl, leading to accumulation of dust. This is a very critical requirement in case of medical components and Elscint follows this to the hilt, however, most bowl feeder manufacturers are not even aware of these points! In case of the pipettes, the speed required was 100 parts per minute and Elscint could easily achieve this speed without the need of any air for orientation or for increasing the speed. The vibratory feeder was for supply to the Philippines where the supply requirement was 220 V / 60 Hz. Elscint provided the right type of coils so that the vibratory feeder could function with such input supply. The complete set of equipment consisted of 3 vibratory bowl feeders, two linear vibrators and three hopper elevators for bulk supply.
