Elscint recently manufactured a high speed cap feeder for feeding of two sizes of caps, one having diameter 22 mm and one diameter 25 mm. The heights of both the caps were also different. The requirement was to feed them in “open side facing ground” orientation at a speed of 120 caps per minute. Elscint used its Model 400 with a stainless steel bowl as it was a food application. The bowl had a diameter of 700 mm. The caps would come in any random manner and had to be changed to the required orientation in the bowl. The caps were taken in open side facing sky orientation inside the bowl and were twisted in a sector type chute to make them open side facing ground. At the end of the chute a cap release mechanism was provided so that the customer’s bottle can pick up the cap and take it forward while moving on a conveyor. There was a difference of 125 mm in the lengths of the various bottles of the customer. Hence, a cubical stand with (+/-) 100 mm ht. adjustment was supplied for ease of adjusting the outlet point with respect to the respective bottles. The equipment was completed within 4 weeks and supplied to the customer’s factory in Gabon, Africa.
