Elscint recently manufactured a vibratory bowl feeder for feeding and stacking of thin paper filters. The filters were just 0.1 mm in thickness and having diameter of dia 80 mm with a 20 mm hole inside the same. The customer wanted these stacked on a rod as it is difficult to handle them by hand. Due to the parts being very light weight, most bowl feeder manufacturers regretted the same as they did not come up the track. Secondly, they had a tendency of getting bunched and moving in a bunch itself, making is difficult to align the internal diameters to get them into a rod. However, Elscint took up the challenge and used its Model 400 HD which is a very powerful drive with 1000 VA rating. A 80 mm track cylindrical bowl was fabricated for this and the paper filters were taken up the spirals and then dropped onto a rod mounted from the bottom (a non-vibrating one). Easy changeover was provided so that the customers could easily change the rods as required, once one was full. A sensor was provided on the rod which gave a signal once the rod was full. This sensor stopped the bowl feeder and gave an indication via a tower lamp that the stack was ready for pick up.
