Elscint recently manufactured & supplied a complete feeding system for feeding of bearing cups to a centerless grinding machine. Elscint used Model 630 with a dia 1100 mm stainless steel bowl coated with Elscinthane PU coating. The components being metallic, would make a lot of noise when fed on the metallic (stainless steel) bowl. However, with the Elscinthane PU bowl coating, the metal to metal contact between the bowl and the components was eliminated, resulting in tremendous reduction in the noise level. It also ensured better feeding performance and longer life for the bowl. The bowl feeder oriented the bearing cups in “Axial with open side forward” orientation and fed the same onto a belt conveyor having length of 1500 mm which then transported the bearing cups upto the work-rest of the centerless grinding machine.
The equipment was mounted on a cubical stand which had an height adjustment of (+/-) 100 mm. For further reduction in the noise level, a mild steel round noise enclosure was provided, lined with acoustic foam and the top was covered by a 10 mm thickness polycarbonate cover. A level controller was also provided in the bowl with a tower lamp to indicate in case the number of parts in the bowl went below a preplanned number. The bearing cups were having sizes ranging from diameter 22 to diameter 57 mm and thickness ranging from 15 mm to 35 mm. All these sizes were accommodated in the same bowl with easy changeover tooling. Further the tooling of the belt conveyor too was made easily adjustable for accommodating this range. A coolant tray was given below the belt conveyor as for the bowl for removal of the coolant. The customer had just 80 mm space for fitting the belt conveyor. Hence, the same was designed in a very compact way so that it would be accommodated in the available space.
The equipment was completed within the scheduled time and dispatched and installed at the customer’s end in South of India.
