Elscint recently manufactured a vibratory bowl feeder for feeding of pen tips of various sizes. The sizes ranged from dia 1.5 mm x 8 mm length to dia 2.4 mm x 14 mm length. Orientation was not required and the tips had to travel axially onto a linear vibrator. The requirement was to feed the same for vision inspection on a glass table. The speed required was a minimum of 500 parts per minute. However, speeds ranging from 550 to 800 parts per minute were achieved. This was made easier due to the robust high performance Elscint vibrator drive Model 250 which was used along with LF I linear vibrator with a track of 400 mm length. This resulted in easy movement of the parts onto the glass table. The bowl feeder and linear vibrator were mounted on a single base plate with a separate mounting arrangement for the linear vibrator. The changeover was easy as only a small part inside the bowl had to be changed. The linear track as well as the bowl track was made in a machined groove, making the movement easy and fast.
