Elscint recently manufactured and supplied a vibratory bowl feeder for feeding of cast balls and having a diameter ranging from 6 mm to 16 mm. The balls were not exactly round in shape and sometimes were elliptical or even triangular.
The speed required was just 2 balls per minute. However, the customer required singulation for the same i.e. one ball to be released on receipt of a signal. This required highly accurate singulation mechanism. This was provided with the help of Elscint’s patented escapement slide on which a Festo make cylinder was fixed. As the balls were of irregular shapes and also having different sizes, proper overflow was required to ensure that the balls do not jam or get stuck in the track. Hence, the escapement was placed just after the bowl. After the singulation, a single ball could flow easily inside the tube. A 800 mm long tube was provided which was having an internal diameter of 20 mm so that even the biggest ball could easily flow out. Proper inclination was provided to the tube for easy movement of the single ball.
