Elscint recently completed an assignment wherein the requirement was to feed various types of sizes of bolts & studs for testing to an Eddy Current Testing Machine. There were various sizes of screws right from M6 x 20 mm length to M24 x 180 mm length. Additionally, studs (without head) having sizes from M4 to M8 (30 mm to 80 mm length) too were to be fed in the same feeder. As both these (bolts and studs) are from different families of components, Elscint provided separate bowls for the two types. The vibrator drive and the stand as well as the gravity chute were the same. Model 630 with a bowl diameter of around 1100 mm was used for this applicable. This ensured that even the biggest part of M16 x 180 mm length & M24 x 90 mm length was fed as well the storage too was enough in the bowl. The requirement was to get the parts in tail forward orientation. Further, a gravity chute was provided with adjustable tooling which again ensured that all these parts were fed properly with minimum changeover. To make changeover easy, Elscint provided separate tooling fixtures for each of the bolts. Additionally, a stand with height adjustment was provided to ensure adjustment from 1050 mm to 1150 mm to match the input height of the Eddy Current Testing Machine. The bowl was coated with Elscinthane PU coating for reduction in noise level as well as better performance. For the studs, as mentioned a separate top bowl was provided. The changeover between the bowl was easy and no adjustment was required.The speed or feed rate achieved was 90 parts per minute for the 180 mm length bolts, 125 parts per minute for the M24 x 90mm bolts and 150 parts per minute for the M6 x 50 mm length stud.
