Elscint recently completed an assignment wherein the requirement was to feed 4 types of metal parts with the head forward and threading trailing in 4 rows. The parts were having diameter 11.5 mm and the ht. varied between 30 mm to 40 mm. The profile of all the 4 components was also different. As 4 rows were required, overflow was required in each of the 4 rows to ensure that there is no jamming once the outlet tracks are full. However, Elscint provided a sensor on the slowest row so that once it was full, the bowl feeder could be stopped, ensuring lesser noise and savings on power. Elscint used its Model 400 vibratory bowl feeder with a bowl diameter of approximately 800 mm for this purpose as 4 outlets were required and plus space was required for overflow of each of the tracks. A speed of 25 to 35 parts per minute per row was achieved as against the required speed of 12 parts per minute. The bowl used was stainless steel and coated with brown Elscinthane PU coating for reduction in noise level as also to ensure better performance of the same.
