The Challenge
Elscint was recently tasked with manufacturing a high-speed feeder to deliver caps across four separate outlets. The target output was 45 caps per minute per row, totaling 180 caps per minute. The primary cap measured 32 mm (diameter) x 20 mm (height). Crucially, the customer required future-proofing: the system needed to handle a variety of caps ranging from dia 20 to 50 mm in diameter and 15 to 30 mm in height.
The Solution
Bowl Design: We utilized a cast aluminum bowl with a single outlet to ensure high-speed orientation.
Track Configuration: A specialized linear track was engineered to divide the single stream into four distinct outlets while maintaining the precise center distance required by the customer.
Versatility: To accommodate the wide range of cap sizes, the system featured adjustable guides and required minimal changeover tooling inside the bowl.
Performance: The system exceeded expectations, achieving a single-outlet speed of over 250 caps per minute, translating to 50 to 55 caps per minute per row.
System Integration
Hopper: Due to the high consumption rate, a 250-liter hopper elevator was integrated to provide extended loading capacity. A level controller in the bowl automatically triggers the elevator to maintain optimal fill levels.
Enclosure: The unit was mounted on an aluminum extrusion stand and housed within a polycarbonate enclosure with accessible doors on all sides.
Outcome
The equipment was manufactured and delivered in record time, allowing the customer—a prominent Swiss MNC—to display the machine at a major industry exhibition.
