Elscint recently completed an assignment wherein the requirement was to feed various types of taper rollers to an Eddy Current Testing Machine. The diameters ranged from dia 6 mm x 8 mm length to dia 24 mm x 45 mm length. There were various sizes in between these minimum and maximum sizes which needed to be fed in the same bowl. All these were to be fed in the same equipment. Ahead of the bowl feeder, a roller orientation unit was provided for orienting the taper rollers in smaller diameter forward orientation. These hardened and ground rollers rotating opposite to each other, do not bind the taper rollers and ensure proper flow and movement with orientation. After the taper rollers were oriented, they were taken into a tube where singulation was provided to ensure only one taper roller was fed on receipt of a signal from the eddy current testing machine. The easy singulation mechanism which was provided was with very easy arrangement for adjustment of all the above sizes. Speed of upto 120 parts per minute and more were possible with the singulation mechanism. The equipment was mounted on a stand. As the loading height of the bowl feeder was almost 1400 mm, a small parts belt elevator was provided for extra loading capacity along with a level controller inside the bowl which provided signal to the elevator to start / stop based on the quantity of rollers inside the bowl. The panel was mounted on the stand itself making the whole equipment very compact and easy to be kept near the eddy current machine. Robust build quality, modular design and easy to use changeover tooling, the hallmark of Elscint’s equipment were all incorporated in this equipment.
