Elscint recently completed a project where in the requirement was for feeding of various types of cups, right from 20 mm diameter to 40 mm diameter. The width of all the cups varying between 7 mm to 9 mm. All these were to be fed in the same bowl feeder. In fact, one bowl feeder was clockwise while the other was anti-clockwise. In each of these bowl feeders, the cups came out rolling with the bigger ID side away from the bowl centre. The speed required was 30 parts per minute for each of the sizes. Elscint used its Model 400 cast aluminium bowl for this application and provided very easy changeover tooling for changeover between all the above sizes. The change parts were laser marked for ease of the operator mentioning which one has to be used for which metal cup. As against the requirement of 30 parts per minute, Elscint achieved a speed of between 90 to 200 parts per minute depending upon the size of the cup.
