Elscint recently supplied seven vibratory bowl feeders for a multinational company having locations at 3 places in India for feeding of Flare Nuts to their Flaring Machines. Most flare nuts are having the across flat and threading size same (10 mm) and the across corner is 11 mm. Lengths differ. The requirement is to get the nuts in rolling orientation on a gravity chute and keep them ready for removal by the operator who puts a tube in the nut and flares the tube on one side. As the company works on 6 sigma, the reason for using these feeders was to ensure that there is no mistake on the operators part by which a wrongly oriented component is flared. Hence, it was a must that orientation was 100% accurate. In the tooling designed by Elscint, this was ensured and further, a poka-yoke was provided to ensure that even if a wrongly oriented component came forward, it was stopped in the chute itself and could be easily removed manually by the operator without wasting much time. This made the equipment fool proof, reducing operator intervention and ensuring zero mistakes. Along with the bowl feeder and gravity chute, a stand to mount the same, fixed on castor wheels was supplied.
