In fact, Elscint had already supplied\n4 similar systems earlier to the same customer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pellets were\nhaving diameter 14 mm to 16 mm and length too varied between 15 mm to 18 mm.\nHandling of uranium pellets is hazardous for the operator and hence the\ncustomer wanted to automate his process. The first 4 systems supplied by\nElscint had been working for four years without any problem and hence the\ncustomer was confident about ordering three more repeat systems. The customer\nhad seen that the output of his grinding machines had increased tremendously due\nto automatic feeding and productivity too had increased. The equipment consisted\nof a vibratory bowl feeder and conveyor ahead of the same. Thereafter a linear\nvibrator with a V type chute was provided to take the parts upto the grinding\nmachine work-rest. Additionally, a loading tray with a linear vibrator was\nprovided on the top of the vibratory bowl feeder for loading the pellets\nthrough their boat. The complete vibratory bowl feeder was covered with a noise\nenclosure with a top polycarbonate cover to ensure that no fumes came out of\nthe equipment. The fumes being radioactive, it was imperative that a separate\nsuction be provided to ensure that the same are removed. Provision was made for\nthis too. A cubical Stand with (+-\/-) 100 mm ht. adjustment and X \u2013 Y movement\nwas provided for ease of adjustment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The customer was\nworried about the extent of chipping of the pallets and removal of the chips\nand dust. For this, proper dust holes were provided with a pipe to take out the\ndust and chips from the equipment. They were accumulated in a separate bin. The\nbowl was lined with Brushlon coating to ensure that chipping was negligible and\nalso the feed rate was improved.
