Feeding of very small parts in a vibratory bowl feeder is quite difficult. There is no specific minimum component size beyond which the parts cannot be fed. However, in case of small parts, not only is the orientation difficult but also in most cases, one requires a magnifying glass to even see the parts properly. Designing a bowl to suit such parts is difficult as the bowl has to be very small and secondly, fabrication of such a small bowl is very difficult as it requires a highly skilled bowl tooler. Hence, it is easier and better to use a machined bowl for such applications. However, most bowl feeder manufacturers do not have the facilities and the know how to manufacture such small machined bowls and hence it is better to work with a vibratory bowl feeder manufacturer who has such facility and expertise. Elscint has fed very small parts and can manufacture highly intricate machined bowls.
