Elscint recently manufactured a special and small vibratory bowl feeder for feeding of sunflower seeds. The sunflower seeds were having varying sizes and dimensions and hence feeding the same was a challenge. Plus the speed required was 600 seeds per minute, which translated into 8 metres per minute, which too was on a higher side. The end use was for vision inspection and hence a single line of the seeds was required along with high accuracy and very accurate and precise feeding. Elscint used its Model 160 with a stainless steel cylindrical bowl for this application. The specially designed bowl ensured that a single flow of seeds was fed but the speed at which it was dispensed was very high. Further, a linear vibrator with a 500 mm track was provided to ensure that the seeds flow onto the turntable of the manufacturer. Additionally, a frequency controller was provided with the provision for varying the speed of the vibrator through a PLC so that the speed could be adjusted as per requirement.
